MONMORE MEN THWART HAMMERS
Monday 02 April 2007
WOLVERHAMPTON collected their second successive Elite League win with a 49-44 success over Arena-Essex Lakeside at Monmore Green.

And the scoreline could have been even more favourable for the Parrys International-backed side but for a late rally from the visitors.

The Hammers battled hard to collect two 5-1s in the last four races to keep themselves in contention for the aggregate point even if they never threatened an away win.

After a fine start by Wolves, last seven races there were five 5-1s to one side or the other with second-placed Billy Hamill suffering engine failure in Heat 9 and the Hammers reduced the gap to five with maximum points in the penultimate race.

Monmore skipper Peter Karlsson then saw his chances of a 15-point full score ended when he was beaten by Kris Kasprzak in the last heat.

WOLVES: Peter Karlsson 13+1, David Howe 10+2, Theo Pijper 8+1, Billy Hamill 5+1, Magnus Karlsson 5, Fredrik Lindgren 5, Carl Wilkinson 3.

ARENA ESSEX-LAKESIDE: Krzysztof Kasprzak 16, Adam Shields 11, Christian Hefenbrock 8+3, Leigh Lanham 4, Henning Bager 3+2, Paul Hurry 2+1, Joonas Kylmakorpi r/r.

PLEASE NOTE Wolverhampton's Bank Holiday home meeting with Belle Vue will start at 7pm - 30-minutes earlier than usual.
And on Good Friday they travel to Manchester with that meeting starting at 8pm.
