WOLVERHAMPTON went agonisingly close to pulling off a consolation point from their 50-43 Elite League defeat at Ipswich on Thursday.

Freddie Lindgren continued his stunning domestic form and was unbeaten in his opening four heats before missing out in a thrilling Heat 15 in his 16+1 haul.

Parrys International Wolves were seven-points down going into the final heat and it was looking good for them to lose by six or less until British star Scott Nicholls pulled off a stunning move to claim the lot for the Witches.

Wolves were 10-points down after just four races but Lindgren was nominated for double points in the fifth and it worked a treat as he joined Ty Proctor for a 7-2 to bring them back into it.

But the Witches were the more consistent team even though Peter Adams’ men kept the scoreline tight and perhaps deserved a point for their efforts.

Skipper Woffinden said: “It’s disappointing to miss out on a point here, we have to view it as a point dropped but we’re only half-way through the league programme.”

IPSWICH: Scott Nicholls 12, Daniel King 11+1, Dawid Stachyra 8+3, Ales Dryml 7+1, Robert Miskowiak 7+1, Linus Sundstrom 5+2, Olly Allen R/R.

WOLVERHAMPTON: Freddie Lindgren 16+1, Tai Woffinden 10, Ludvig Lindgren 6, Adam Skornicki 6, Ty Proctor 4+1, Nicolai Klindt 1, Joe Haines 0.
