WOLVERHAMPTON continued their powerful push towards the Elite League Speedway play-offs with a 54-39 victory over struggling Ipswich at Monmore on Monday.

The Witches were without Oliver Allen and Ales Dryml and relied too heavily on British star Scott Nicholls who notched 14+2 and was the only man to beat top Wolf Freddie Lindgren (14). The pair will meet again at Cardiff in the British Grand Prix on Saturday - but before then the two teams will clash in Suffolk on Thursday.

Once again the Parrys International Wolves gave a solid all-round team performance despite the absence of injured Polish star Adam Skornicki.

Track conditions appeared to catch riders out early on but Peter Adams' Wolverhampton side were in no mood to be beaten.

Nicholls took six points from a tactical ride in Heat 5, but Nicolai Klindt rounded Ricky Wells on lap two to minimise the damage for the home side.

Race of the night was the battle for third between Wolves skipper Tai Woffinden and Robert Miskowiak in Heat 13, while Nicholls gained revenge for his two earlier defeats by Fredrik Lindgren, by ending the Swede’s maximum hopes in heat 15.

WOLVERHAMPTON: Fredrik Lindgren 14, Nicolai Klindt 12 Ty Proctor 8+4, Matt Wethers 7+2, Ludvig Lindgren 7+2, Tai Woffinden 6+1, Adam Skornicki R/R.

IPSWICH: Scott Nicholls 14+2, Robert Miskowiak 11+1, Dawid Stachyra 7, Danny King 3, Ricky Wells 2, Carl Wilkinson 0, Oliver Allen R/R.
