WOLVERHAMPTON’S proud unbeaten home record is over after a 51-42 defeat by title favourites Poole on Monday.

Peter Adams’ men hadn’t been beaten on home shale in the Elite League since September 2008 but the Pirates were the better all-round side and Adams offered no excuses.

He said: “There was a lot of talk about the track but it’s the same for both sides and Poole deserved their win. We’re not offering any excuses as it was the same for both sides.

“And I would remind everyone not to get carried away, it’s a very early stage of a long season.”

Skipper Peter Karlsson provided some of the best entertainment on the night and won a tactical ride for six-points.

But Poole, with Swedish sensation Dennis Andersson at reserve, had far too much strength throughout their line-up for the Parrys International Wolves.

Freddie Lindgren was controversially excluded at an important stage of the meeting but this can take nothing away from a fine Poole performance.

The side meet again in Dorset on Wednesday but this time in the first leg of the Elite Shield.

WOLVERHAMPTON 42: Peter Karlsson 13+1, Freddie Lindgren 8+1, Tai Woffinden 8+1, Ludvig Lindgren 5, Ty Proctor 4+2, Tyson Burmeister 2, Ricky Wells 2.

POOLE 51: Chris Holder 14, Dennis Andersson 11+1, Jason Doyle 9+1, Davey Watt 9+1, Christian Hefenbrock 5+3, Renat Gafurov 3, Darcy Ward R/R.
