WOLVERHAMPTON went down to a 50-45 Elite League defeat at Swindon on Thursday evening – but they didn’t leave the Abbey Stadium completely empty-handed.
The Robins were seemingly on course to pick up the maximum three league points as they were steadily building up a healthy lead, but Peter Adams men came fighting back in the closing stages to snatch a consolation league point by keeping the winning margin to just five-points.
With Swindon leading 38-24 after ten races Peter Karlsson put his recent injury worries behind him to win a thrilling heat 11 whilst on a tactical ride. Team-mate Freddie Lindgren followed him home and the resulting 8-1 suddenly put Wolves back in the hunt.
Even then the Wiltshire side responded with successive 4-2s to lead 47-36, but there was more to come from the rejuvenated Monmore men.
Ty Proctor and Ricky Wells combined for a 5-1 in heat 14 to beat highly-rated Pole Maciej Janowski, and then trusty duo of Lindgren and Karlsson secured the league point with a 4-2 over the Swindon pairing of Scott Nicholls and Jesper Monberg.
