PATCHED-UP Wolves put in a brave performance at Wimborne Road on Wednesday – finally going down by 12-points at the hands of the Elite League leaders.

The absence of star Swedes Freddie Lindgren and Peter Karlsson after crashes on successive days earlier this week was always likely to give the visitors a mountain to climb, but Tai Woffinden and guest Chris Harris both gave the Pirates’ top order plenty to think about.

There was a confidence-boosting Heat 1 win for Ty Proctor over Chris Holder, although that turned out to be Proctor’s only points of the night with his meeting ending with a fall in Heat 8, whilst Ricky Wells and Tyson Burmeister also suffered accidents during an eventful meeting which saw Poole’s Dennis Andersson not appearing again after a heavy first-bend crash with Burmeister in Heat 6.

Wolves did well to peg the Pirates early on with Harris and Woffinden adding to Proctor’s early win, Woffinden superbly defeating Darcy Ward in Heat 7, and after a Poole 5-1 in Heat 8 Harris went for double in the next and duly banked a full six-point haul to reduce the gap on the night to seven.

The match, though, moved away from them with back-to-back Poole maximums in Heats 12 and 13, with Ludvig Lindgren team-ridden out of the former race as Wells came to grief, and the Australian duo of Holder and Ward holding off Harris in the latter.

Woffinden also added a six-point tactical ride in Heat 14 as Wolves collected a 7-2, but Poole were already assured of maximum points from the meeting before Ward took the last race with Woffinden and Harris working hard to keep Davey Watt at the back.

POOLE 54: Darcy Ward 13+1, Chris Holder 11, Jason Doyle 10+1, Davey Watt 9+1, Christian Hefenbrock 8+3, Renat Gafurov 3+1, Dennis Andersson 0.

WOLVES 42: Tai Woffinden 16+1, Chris Harris 14+1, Ludvig Lindgren 6, Ricky Wells 3+1, Ty Proctor 3, Tyson Burmeister 0, Peter Karlsson R/R.
