WOLVERHAMPTON pulled off a sensational 45-44 Elite League win over table-toppers Poole Pirates in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Monmore.

Peter Adams’ men gave a solid all-round team performance with skipper Peter Karlsson racing through the pain barrier to top score with 10+2.

And guest rider Niels Kristian Iversen, in for injured top rider Freddie Lindgren, was impressive with 9+2 from his five rides.

It took the Parrys International Wolves 10 races to take the lead with a 5-1 from Iversen and the impressive Ty Proctor .

But Poole bounced back with a maximum of their own in Heat 12 to go 36-35 up and it took a 4-2 from Ludvig Lindgren and Tai Woffinden in heat 14 to take a one-point lead into the deciding Heat 15.

World Under-21 champion Darcy Ward completed a brilliant 15-point maximum in the last race but with Iversen and Karlsson holding the minor places Wolves were home by a point.

Boss Peter Adams said: “This was a truly remarkable effort from the team and we are delighted with the win, especially as we were without our top rider Freddie Lindgren.

“It was a good, close meeting and I’m sure the fans enjoyed it. We are pleased with the two-points and Poole probably deserved their point too.”
