PARRYS International Wolves withstood a late Poole fightback to take a 49-42 victory in an eventful clash at Monmore Green.
Having raced into a 17-point lead after ten races, Wolverhampton looked set for a comfortable win against the injury-hit Pirates.
Yet the visitors hit back to move within seven entering the final race of the evening "“ leaving Wolves needing a magnificent ride from Tai Woffinden and guest Chris Harris to take the 3-3 required to secure all three league points.
And team boss Peter Adams was thrilled to see his side take victory.
He said: "We got the job done in the end and got all three points to move five points clear at the top of the league once again.
"I think it's tremendous we are still top of the league given the absences we are carrying, although tonight we saw rider replacement accumulate plenty of points and Chris Harris do an excellent job as a guest."
Harris and Woffinden spearheaded the Monmore men throughout, although Adam Skornicki also continued his great form with a battling display.
Reserve duo Ludvig Lindgren and Jacob Thorssell once again put in good performances to bolster the lower order, whilst Ricky Wells completed a strong team performance with a useful return.
