WOLVERHAMPTON pushed title hopefuls King’s Lynn all the way in an Elite League thriller in Norfolk – but eventually went down 49-41.

It was a brave display from the Parrys International Wolves who were without key men Ty Proctor (knee) and Joe Jacobs (concussion).

Cradley man Steve Worrall stepped in for Jacobs and did a fine job alongside Ashley Morris at reserve – and the rider replacement facility operated for Proctor who hopes to return on Monday against Lakeside at Monmore.

The meeting served up some entertaining racing with both sides giving maximum effort – but it was Lynn who staged a late rally to grasp the points with Danish Grand Prix duo Niels-Kristian Iversen and Kenneth Bjerre notching maximums in two of the last three races.

Parrys International Wolves boss Peter Adams said: “Piotr Pawlicki was struck by Kenneth Bjerre, then lost an exhaust in another race – and when you add everything up I felt we were good value for a point at least but we didn’t get it.

“I have to say Belle Vue and King’s Lynn can count themselves very fortunate because they have taken points from a Wolverhampton side with a below-par Tai Woffinden. Any other time and they wouldn’t have been so successful against us and Tai won’t be in this situation much longer, he will sort it, so the other teams had better watch out!

“Special mention to Steve Worrall who came in as a guest and rode extremely well – I was hugely impressed by him and our appreciation goes to him.”

KING’S LYNN 49: Kenneth Bjerre 14+1, Niels-Kristian Iversen 12+2, Rory Schlein 6+1, Nicklas Porsing 5+2, Lewis Kerr 5+1, Robert Lambert 4+1, Lewis Rose 3.

WOLVERHAMPTON 41: Ricky Wells 8+1, Steve Worrall 8+1, Jacob Thorssell 8, Piotr Pawlicki 8, Tai Woffinden 5+1, Ashley Morris 5, Ty Proctor R/R.

Elite League points: King’s Lynn 3 Wolverhampton 0.
