WOLVERHAMPTON had to settle for a 45-45 draw in yet another Monmore thriller with reigning champions Poole on Monday.

Entering a tense last heat decider trailing by two, Peter Adams' side appeared set to snatch a remarkable victory as Piotr Pawlicki and Tai Woffinden hit the front.

But Poole man Przemyslaw Pawlicki sensationally split the pair to deny the home side a win and ensure the scores ended level.

And skipper Woffinden admitted his side were disappointed not to take victory on a frustrating evening.

He said: "We are definitely disappointed - a draw against Poole isn't a disastrous result but we need to be winning our home meetings.

"We've dropped quite a few points at home already this season now which is frustrating and we know we need to correct that.

"It was a tough night but we just need to pick ourselves up and make sure we get something from Birmingham on Wednesday because we really need to."

Polish youngster Pawlicki starred once again for the home side with a magnificent showing, whilst No.1 Woffinden also added paid double figures with an improved performance.

Talented reserve Joe Jacobs also enjoyed a return to form to bolster the lower order - whilst partner Ashley Morris contributed with a paid win in his opening ride before seeing bike troubles ruin his evening.

Californian ace Ricky Wells also put in a creditable display as he stepped up to the tough heatleader role.

Second strings Jacob Thorssell and Ty Proctor both proved solid yet unspectacular - and with Wolves accounting for just six race winners they were unable to edge victory against a strong Pirates side.

WOLVERHAMPTON 45: Piotr Pawlicki 11+1, Tai Woffinden 8+2, Joe Jacobs 8+2, Ricky Wells 6, Ty Proctor 5+2, Jacob Thorssell 5, Ashley Morris 2+1.

POOLE 45: Przemyslaw Pawlick 12, Charles Wright 7+2, Chris Holder 7, Maciej Janowski 6+2, Vaclav Milik 6, Josh Grajczonek 6, Luke Crang 1+1.

Elite League points: Wolverhampton 1 Poole 2
