LAKESIDE 53 WOLVES 40

Friday May 09, 2014
PARRYS International Wolves boss Peter Adams was keen to focus on the positives after his side suffered a disappointing 53-40 defeat at Lakeside.

The Monmore men were unable to add to their Elite League points tally against the in-form Hammers, falling short of a consolation point.

Yet Adams was delighted to see World Champion Tai Woffinden put in an improved display to form a strong spearhead alongside the impressive Piotr Pawlicki.

Said Adams: "It was always going to be a tough meeting, and they hit us hard early on in the meeting.

"We had some bad luck early on but once we got into our stride we matched them all the way.

"I think the most encouraging sign from tonight was Tai Woffinden's performance. He was back to somewhere like his best, and I think once he finds his feet properly we'll be OK."

Pawlicki and Woffinden proved the main source of Wolves resistance throughout as they recorded all four of their sides' race wins.

Polish hotshot Pawlicki in particular impressed on his first visit to the tricky Arena-Essex raceway, joining forces with the World Champion for a crucial 8-1 in heat six.

However, despite their admirable efforts Wolves were undone by a strong Hammers side on what was a frustrating night.

They will return to the track aiming to bounce back to winning ways on Monday as Swindon visit Monmore Green fresh off a confidence-boosting win at Coventry.
