PARRYS International Wolves overcame difficult conditions and a determined Coventry side before edging a hard-fought 47-43 victory against their Midlands rivals at Monmore Green.

Two heavy downpours moments before the meeting was due to get underway threaten to put the fixture in doubt, yet track staff performed heroics to ensure the clash went ahead.

And despite struggling with conditions early on, Wolverhampton emerged victorious - thanks mainly to a sensational maximum from the in-form Piotr Pawlicki.

The Polish hotshot went through the card in fine style, snatching a sublime victory in heat 11 having fought his way from the back before claiming composed triumphs in heats 13 and 15 to wrap up the win.

Having made a spectacular start to life with the club, Pawlicki took his flying form to a new level with a faultless showing - although he did receive able back-up from several areas.

Swedish talent Jacob Thorssell dropped just one point as he put in a classy display, whilst skipper Tai Woffinden was also good value for his 6+3 as he was involved in two of his sides three 5-1s.

Despite difficult evenings, Ricky Wells, Ty Proctor and Joe Jacobs all made solid contributions - and although youngster Ashley Morris endured a forgettable evening at reserve Wolves were still able to preserve their unbeaten home record.

And team boss Peter Adams admitted he was simply pleased to take a win in the circumstances.

Said Adams: "Coventry always turn out teams who are very capable here at Monmore and they are always a problem for us.

"We obviously arrived looking for all three points but I think the weather put paid to that because when the track is difficult early on it always favours the visitors.

"When the conditions got better later on so did we, and we managed to win in the end which was the plus point.

"The disappointing thing is that we didn't take all three points, but we were close in the end and it was an good win overall."
