PARRYS International Wolves endured a tough night as they suffered a 57-35 defeat at Lakeside.

The Monmore men were unable to add to their Elite League points tally on a disappointing night at the Arena-Essex Raceway.

Without Piotr Pawlicki and Jacob Thorssell, Peter Adams' men always faced a tough task against a strong Hammers side.

The depleted visitors struggled with a lack of firepower with only five race wins preventing them from challenging for a consolation point despite a typically brave effort.

Skipper Tai Woffinden recorded three race wins on his way to an excellent double figure points haul.

Yet he received minimal support in the absence of fellow heat-leaders Pawlicki and Thorssell, and he was frustrated to see his side defeated.

Said Woffinden: "I struggled a bit in my first ride but did the best I could and managed to have a pretty good night in the end.

"A few of the other guys were struggling though which was a shame. I helped where I could but that's just the way racing is - one day you are fast and the next things just don't seem to go your way.

"It was always going to be tough but it just wasn't our night, so we've got to put this behind us and move on to the meeting against Coventry on Monday."

Ricky Wells and Ty Proctor both fought hard for little reward although unable to claim race wins, whilst guest Danny King struggled after an impressive win in his first ride.

Reserve duo Tom Perry and Joe Jacobs both added creditable scores in the lower order, yet with rider replacement returning only three points in place of Thorssell it was not enough to prevent a disappointing loss.

Wolverhampton 35: Tai Woffinden 14, Danny King 5, Ricky Wells 5, Tom Perry 4+1, Ty Proctor 4, Joe Jacobs 3, Jacob Thorssell r/r
