WOLVES 50 LEICESTER 42

Monday September 01, 2014
PARRYS International Wolves put in a strong display to race to a 50-42 win over Midlands neighbours Leicester at Monmore Green.

Despite cancelling the contract of Piotr Pawlicki earlier in the day and being without injured skipper Tai Woffinden, the depleted Wolves put in a determined display to claim three Elite League points.

Peter Adams' side made a solid start to establish an early lead before back to back 5-1s in heats eight and nine saw them seize control.

A late Leicester surge did threaten to see them take a point, but Wolves held on for all three points - and Adams was pleased with a determined performance from his side.

Said Adams: "It was a workmanlike showing from the boys, and it was a good win in the end.

"Obviously Leicester were weakened by the absence of Jason Doyle, but we still had to get the job done and I'm glad we came away with all three points."

The Monmore men were led in fine style by Swedish ace Jacob Thorssell as he top scored with a spectacular showing.

The talented youngster suffered just one defeat from five rides as he returned to the heat-leader position, stepping up with a match-winning display.

Lasse Bjerre also joined him in making double figures, claiming two race wins in what was a strong performance, whilst Rory Schlein fought valiantly for a solid score whilst guesting at No.1.

With reserve duo Joe Jacobs and Tom Perry impressive in the lower order plus Peter Karlsson adding a solid contribution despite an inconsistent night, Wolves emerged with a superb win in their penultimate home meeting of the season.

They will now prepare for a busy few days as they travel to Swindon and Poole on Wednesday and Thursday respectively in Elite League action.

WOLVERHAMPTON 50: Jacob Thorssell 14, Rory Schlein 10+1, Lasse Bjerre 10, Joe Jacobs 6+3, Peter Karlsson 6+1, Tom Perry 4+1, Piotr Pawlicki R/R.
