PARRYS International Wolves suffered a 58-34 defeat against title hopefuls Coventry in their final Elite League meeting of the campaign.

The Monmore men travelled to Brandon heavily depleted, and although they put in a determined effort they could not end their frustrating season on a high note.

It was a difficult night for Wolves against a Bees side warming up for the upcoming play-offs - and promoter Chris Van Straaten admitted it was a disappointing evening.

He said: “It was a very grippy track, particularly to start with, which didn’t really suit us.

“It was just one of those things. They are going for a league title whereas for our riders it was the last meeting of the season, and I think that showed on the track.

“You could see that mentally they were a lot sharper. They are full of confidence and it showed. It was disappointing we couldn’t end the season on a high note, but it just wasn’t our night.”

Guesting duo Danny King and Scott Nicholls both fought hard in the heat-leader positions, accounting for Wolves’ only three race wins against a Bees side in inspired form.

Youngster Tom Perry also fought hard for a creditable score, whilst Lasse Bjerre earned little reward for his gutsy effort.

However, Swedish favourite Peter Karlsson struggled as he aggravated a back injury before pulling out of his final two rides, whilst reserve Joe Jacobs endured a night to forget as Wolves’ Elite League campaign drew to a close.
