TAI Woffinden was crowned British Champion for a third successive year on a dramatic night at Monmore Green.

The former Wolves captain won four of his five programmed rides before coming out on top in a re-run of the Grand Final.

The 24-year-old, who also equalled his own track record which he set in the same meeting last year, was delighted to make it a hat-trick of consecutive British titles. Said Woffinden: "I'm so stoked with the result and it's great to be on top of that podium again

"I was pretty lucky to get the re-run because I made hash of the first one but that's the nature of the sport and I won the race that mattered most.

"I've been working really hard this year and it's great to see that it's paying off just lately.

"The fans were great with me once again and it was real good to be back at Wolverhampton."

Wolves reserve Lewis Blackbird was "fairly happy" with his first meeting back since breaking his fingers and picking up a back injury three weeks ago.

"Things went okay - I scored six points which is more than last year so for my first one back I can live with that.

"My back especially is quite sore so I'll rest that tomorrow and hopefully I'll be recovered to take my place in the Wolves line-up at Belle Vue on Wednesday."
