WOLVERHAMPTON icon Mikael Max says winning the league with the club meant as much as representing his country.

Max formed a formidable spearhead with the Monmore Green side alongside brother Peter Karlsson after starting his British career in 1994.

Now both riders have retired and they will be back in Wolverhampton next month for a special show at the Cleveland Arms sports pub on Sunday March 11 (8pm).

Said Max: “Of course my own stand-out moment with the Wolves was winning the title in 2002,” he said.

“We had a really good team that year and it was a thrilling fixture against Eastbourne. All the team deserved it that year but to win a league title being in the same team as my brother was a special moment for us both.

“We’ve won Swedish Pairs Championships and we’ve even won the World Cup with Sweden together too, but winning the league with each other at Wolverhampton was just as special in my eyes.

“Peter and myself are looking forward to coming back over to Wolverhampton and seeing all the fans again, I’m sure it will be a great night.”

Tickets for ‘The Wolves Brothers’ stage show are available via clevelandarms.com at the booking office or by calling The Cleveland Arms direct on 01902 451021. Limited £30 VIP packages remain while standard tickets are priced at £12.

Meanwhile the club’s press and practice takes place at Monmore on Monday March 19 (6.30) and the following night the 2018 team and management will be at the Cleveland Arms for the traditional pre-season talk-in.

And the opening meeting against Poole takes place on Monday March 26 at 7.30.
