LEICESTER 47 WOLVES 43

Monday May 21, 2018
WOLVERHAMPTON secured a hard fought league point from their 47-43 defeat at Leicester.

Sam Masters and Jacob Thorssell were the last heat heroes, securing a 5-1 advantage to ensure they left the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena with something to show for their efforts.

It was a battling display from the Parrys International Wolves who rode as a six man team with Kyle Howarth absent after scoring a respectable six points in the afternoon's Grand Prix qualifier in Germany.

A switch in riding order inspired Masters to top score from the No.4 position. But the move didn't work out as well for skipper Rory Schlein who endured his toughest night of the season at No.5.

Thorssell again scored paid double figures while Cameron Heeps looked a lot more competitive with six points to his name.

That was the same tally for Ashley Morris who found himself in even better scoring positions throughout the night while Nathan Greaves battled to an important four point contribution from reserve.

It was a fixture all about making a good gate with very few passing lines and Wolves team boss Peter Adams was content with a consolation league point in the end.

"It's typical of the Leicester track that if you don't make the gate then you're going to struggle to make a pass," Adams said.

"It's long held that reputation and there was some unexpected heavy dirt on the outside which caught a few people out in the middle part of the meeting.

"I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't take more than the one, but I guess in the circumstances a point is okay.

"When you look down the scorechart, an uncharacteristically poor night for Rory was the separator between the two sides tonight.

"We're getting closer though and we have another chance to get what we want at Poole in two days time."

Wolves head to Wimborne Road to take on the Pirates on Wednesday (May 23, 7.30).

LEICESTER 47: Richie Worrall 10+1, James Sarjeant 8+1, Kyle Newman 8+1, Ricky Wells 7, Krystian Pieszczek 6, Kenneth Bjerre 5, Todd Kurtz 3+1.
WOLVERHAMPTON 43: Sam Masters 14+1, Jacob Thorssell 9+2, Cameron Heeps 6+1, Ashley Morris 6, Rory Schlein 4+2, Nathan Greaves 4+1, Kyle Howarth R/R.
