WOLVERHAMPTON Speedway are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of popular comedian Ian 'Sludge' Lees, a good friend of the club.

Sludge' was a regular at Monmore Green whenever his schedule allowed and was a true fan of the sport.

Well known for his TV appearances on the big show 'Tiswas' in the 70s and 80s, 'Sludge' was a successful cabaret performer and one of the most successful comedians of his generation.

He died after a short illness aged 74 and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
