SAM Ermolenko, one of the most popular riders ever to wear Wolverhampton colours, will be in charge of the team for Monday’s vital Premiership clash with champions Poole at Monmore (8pm).

Ermolenko, who made almost 600 appearances for the club during a glittering career and notched almost 6,000 points, takes temporary charge as cover for the unavailable Peter Adams.

And he faces the club where he started his professional career back in the mid-80s.

Parrys International Wolves owner Chris Van Straaten said: “Sam is still loved by the Wolverhampton fans and he is delighted to have this opportunity.

“He’s a charismatic person who will work well with the riders I feel certain about that and when we knew Peter was unavailable we made this move to ask Sam.

“He gave a lot of people a lot of enjoyment when he was a rider and he dominated the league when he won his world title in 1993.

“It’s ironic he will face Poole. He went there to start his career but when they hit problems we brought him to Wolverhampton and the rest is history.”

The Bank Holiday meetings always pull in bumper crowds at Monmore and Wolverhampton are still in with a chance of making the play-offs.
Poole, meanwhile, are in a great position to have a shot at defending their Premiership title.
