WOLVERHAMPTON picked up their first piece of silverware of the new season with the help of an excellent 50-40 win at Lakeside on Friday evening.

The ten-point victory secured the Elite Shield 112-74 on aggregate and follows their impressive performance in the first leg at Monmore Green on Monday.

It was a good team display on the night with Freddie Lindgren easily the pick of the bunch with a 15-point maximum. Tai Woffinden chipped in with 10+1 and Nicolai Klindt had two race wins in his 8+1 tally.

The Midland side weren’t happy to just defend their big first leg lead and immediately jumped into an early lead courtesy of a 4-2 from Lindgren and Ty Proctor in heat 1. However, that was short-lived as the Hammers quickly hit back and had opened up a 21-15 advantage after heat 6.

If there were any worries that the Essex men were going to pull-back the first leg deficit they were soon gone as Wolverhampton then regained the lead with successive maximums in heats 7 and 8.

Lakeside did draw level in heat 10, but 4-2s in races 11 and 12 plus a big 5-1 in heat 13 from Lindgren and Woffinden left Wolves with a 43-35 lead and on the brink of victory.

This was confirmed when winter recruit Joe Screen came from behind to win heat 14 and Lindgren then completed his full-house in the final race of the night.

WOLVERHAMPTON 50: Freddie Lindgren 15, Tai Woffinden 10+1, Nicolai Klindt 8+1, Joe Screen 8, Ty Proctor 5, Joe Haines 2+1, Ludvig Lindgren 2
